ABOUT OUR CAMPS in previous years
Stelpur rokka! (Girls Rock! Iceland) or Læti! is a volunteer-run non profit focussing on the empowerment of girls, trans boys, genderqueer youth and intersex youth through music. At our multi day rock camps, campers learn to play an instrument, form a band, and write their own songs. They participate in workshops on various themes around women and music, attend lunch time shows with famous Icelandic women musicians, and perform their song at a final showcase in front of a packed audience of family and friends.
We do not turn anyone away for lack of funds. We offer a sliding scale tuition for all camps. That means that participants choose what amount they are willing and able to pay as tuition for camp. Free spots are also available. Campers with greater financial need have priority for lowered or free tuition.
No previous musical experience is necessary. All programming is led by volunteers with a background in music and experience working with youth.
Programming is in Icelandic but all of our volunteers speak English. We have several volunteers that are fluent in Spanish, German, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, and French as well as other languages.
